Young Prospects

A core part of the Milcayac program is the development of young prospect dogs. Rather than placing every dog as a young puppy, we retain select dogs longer in order to properly evaluate their temperament, structure, working drive, and overall potential.

These dogs are raised and developed within our program for a longer period of time so they can be fully assessed and better matched to their future role, whether that is as a family companion, hunting partner, or show prospect.

​

Young prospects from our program may already be:

• BAER hearing tested
• fully health screened
• structurally evaluated for breed type
• introduced to basic training and handling
• exposed to field environments and natural working instincts

​

Because these dogs are raised longer within our program, buyers have the advantage of acquiring a dog that has already been carefully evaluated, developed, and selected for its potential.

Reserved Prospect Development

​

For serious clients, we also offer the opportunity to reserve a prospect from a planned breeding. In these cases, the puppy remains with us longer so we can properly evaluate and develop the dog before placement.

This allows us to select a young dog with strong potential for specific goals such as:

• hunting and working homes
• show prospects
• experienced breed enthusiasts

By allowing the dog to mature longer in our program, we can provide buyers with a more predictable and carefully selected prospect.
